What steps are you taking that lead you to that message? Can you post a screenshot?

No screenshot available. The steps I take are:

    Install JetPack

    Activate

Attempt to connect with wordpress.com (that fails). Since it is the JetPack server that can’t connect with my site, it is either something wrong with the main installation, or at my host.

I suspect that there is a fault with the core installation. I just don’t know what it is, or how to fix it.

This is because your Softaculous installation excluded the xmlrpc.php file, which you mentioned at https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/xmlrpcphp-in-wordpress

The file is required by Jetpack and several apps and other web services, and it’s just as secure as whatever password you chose for your user.

Try downloading WordPress again, then access your server via FTP or SFTP and upload the xmlrpc.php file from the download to the same directory as your existing wp-login.php file.

Actually, they didn’t. But it is a hidden file.

In that case, you’ll need to either make it publicly accessible or ask your hosting provider to, as Jetpack requires it.
