• Hi there,

I have a customized theme (www.talipurkerson.com) that has been all wonky out of nowhere (I assume it is the WP update) Anyhow I was hoping for some help.

The first thing is that I have two customized sidebars that just completely dissapeared (they say they are disabled in the dashboard becuase of the new update)- how do I get them back and visible?

Also on my main index page there is a “main page” with a user icon that takes up the top half of the page (where before it was just the intro graphics)- is there anyway to remove this “main index page”/user icon from the front page?

I’m afraid to see what else has happened to the site, but so far those are the two things I am going to focus on for now

I disabled all of the plug ins and logged out and did all that and it is totally within the site from what I can tell. The last plug in I added was google analytics, but I removed it, other than that no code has changed or anything,

is there a way to go back to a previous version of wordpress if possible?

any advice would be soo much appreciated.

    Ok thank you so much!

  • When you customised your theme, did you do it in a child theme, or did you make the changes directly to your main theme?

If you made the changes to your main theme, then I hate to say, they are gone. Updates basically delete all of the existing files in your theme and install new ones instead, so any changes that you’ve made have been lost.

The only way to get around this is to restore the site from a backup. If you don’t have one yourself, you can ask your hosting company if they have a backup available from before you did the update. If you can get that installed, I’d suggst moving the changes over to a child theme (as much as you can at least) before attempting to update your theme again otherwise you’ll be back in the same predicament.

oh my gosh! Thank you so much! I am talking to the hosting now. I literally was about to have a heart attack cause I had three sites that were lost!

I did wish WP let us know before hand or at least let us have the option of updating. Thank you again sooo much this is saving my life!

    thanks again ??
