• Hello,

    I run the website

    https://www.soundonsight.org

We’ve been having massive issues with the performance speed / loading time over the last few months.

We’ve tried just about everything : eliminating every plugin – changing hosting plans / servers – launching a completely new template and so on…

Since doing so the site was running incredibly fast until recently. Over the past couple of days, our site has taken forever to load up … even completely crashing at one point.

We are a non-profit website and we are very quickly running out of options. We need our site to run well in order to keep it alive.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Just a suggestion but instead of eliminating every plugin have you tried adding one?
These caching plugins do a pretty good job of speeding things up.

    W3 Total Cache
    WP Super Cahce

Hosting can also play a big part in your sites speed. Have you looked into upgrading that?

    Hey ChrisL_57

We upgraded our hosting package. We moved to another company and now have a dedicated server. Funny thing is the the site ran faster and better when we were on a shared server

We had WP Super Cache but my computer guy replaced it with another Cache button.

I feel the problems are much deeper.

    I’ll look into this

Also worth noting, and I am not sure if this helps, but our site is running on a Windows server now and not Lynux

I am not sure if this matters

I’m the webdev for this site so I thought I would provide a few more details which might help someone help us.

I have completed all the required elements for GoogleSite Speed and that is not the problem.

    • The site is running on a dedicated windows server Intel Pentium Dual core @ 2GHz with 2GB of RAM. This is a 32Bit system.
    • Using IIS7 and PHP 5.4 in Fast CGI, we have 4 instances of php-cgi.exe running at any time.
    • Dynamic and static caching have been turned on in IIS7.
    • The MySQL Database has been optimized and is using query caching with a memory limit of around 256MB.
    • The theme we are using (Gabfire-Arts and Culture) does use timthumb.php, so I’m not sure if that has anything to do with it?
    • We get around 5-7,000 unique visits per day, so around 10-15,000 page views.
    • The php-cgi processes are at times are hogging the processor, and the processor sits at 100%.

We have tried QuickCache as I have been informed it works well on a windows box. Any other caching plugins that work well in this environment? Anything you can recommend we do?
