site isn't displaying any content (blank)

  • Hello everyone,

    I have the spun theme on my wp site. After changing some php code in the tempate-tags.php file, both the site and the administrative page simply went down (meaning, the don’t display any content).
    This is the site:

    All I was trying to do was to inverse the navigation arrows direction, as I was guided by this post here:

    What can I do know? How can I get back to the previous state? I’m not sure if there’s any backup to the server, but obviously I would like to keep all the changes that I’ve done up until the php code change.

    Moreover, is this actually a possibly normal behaviour for the wp platform? Do I actually need to be extremely careful when I try to modify php code? Can’t I experiment just like in css without the thread of the site crashing?
    This is really bewildering for me.

  • It sounds like you have jacked up the code.

    If you don’t have a back up you will have to either figure it out or start over.

    I honestly uses vaultpress.com for that specific reason. IT backs up my site on every change so I can revert back at anytime.

    I’m not a PHP dude but always make a copy of a the code to textpad or if you’re working in FTP just duplicate the file before make edits. That way you have a working copy at all times.
