Hi y’all! Google Analytics seems to have stopped tracking any data – both Analytics and the Site Kit dashboard report 0 visitors. My other websites run on the same combination of plugins and have no issues, so I’m a bit lost as to what could be the issue. Any ideas?

    Hi there @docta,

Thanks for reaching out. I checked your site (recording) and I can see that both a Universal Analytics and a Google Analytics 4 snippet are placed on your site via Site Kit, and both seem to be recording fine at present. You can check this and ensure visits are being tracked via https://tagassistant.google.com.

With regards the 0 visitors on the Site Kit dashboard, please share the following:

    1. Did you recently set up Analytics on this site via Site Kit, within the previous 24 or 48 hours?
    2. When you click on the link within the Site Kit dashboard, directing you to the connected Universal Analytics account over on analytics.google.com, can you confirm you see the same 0 data metrics?
    3. Is it possible that you or another administrator recently changed the connected Analytics account?

Let me know if you have any questions with the above. Once we have this information we can hopefully determine the cause. Note also that if you’re only comparing your own site visits, the issue may be that Site Kit by default doesn’t count logged in administrator traffic. You’ll need to check your own site visits while not logged in, or change the default settings within Site Kit to include all logged in users.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

    Hi James,

Thanks for the super quick reply!

    1. I set up Site Kit last year – previously, I had Analytics set up through the YOAST plugin, but I left that plugin last year and then set up Site Kit. No changes made in the past 48 hours.
    2. The link from Site Kit leads to the old UA property that also has zero traffic since 30 March. (In fact, I discovered it on Analytics, then went to my Site Kit dashboard and saw 0 there too.) The strange thing, however, is that on the home view of the UA property, I can see that there are in fact currently a few people looking at various pages on the website, but the graph is still a flat line and the audience overview is 0 as well. The GA4 account I set up ages ago does seem to track visitors and shows about roughly the same amount of visitors Jetpack is tracking.
    3. Nobody else has access to either the site or Analytics.

    Thank you again!

Many thanks for the update @docta. Based on the information you kindly shared, it sounds like Site Kit may be connected to the?old UA property that also has zero traffic, given the link within Site Kit directs you to that property. Did you check the Universal Analytics property ID that Site Kit is connected to, rather than just depending on the link?

What you may also wish to do, is disconnect the Analytics module once more. When connecting, please ensure you are connecting to your Universal Analytics property that does have traffic. You can check this before connecting from analytics.google.com.

Note also that when you mention the connect GA4 property does have traffic, Site Kit at present will only display data within the Site Kit dashboards based on the connected Universal Analytics property, and not GA4. This will change very soon.

Let me know if you have any questions with the above.

Hi James, yes, I checked the property itself, that’s actually the first place I noticed something was amiss. Mysteriously, between 30 March and 6 April, the UA property tracked nothing. It started tracking again on the 7th. In the meantime, the GA4 property tracked visitors the entire time. Anyway, I have taken this as a sign to fully migrate to GA4… ?? Which I have done and things seem alright, GA4 and Site Kit seem properly connected.

Many thanks for the update @docta, and appreciate the update. Good call also in migrating fully to GA4, as we plan on switching the Site Kit dashboard to display data based on the connected GA4 property very soon. As for the missing period of UA data that is indeed very strange. Unfortunately I can’t be sure what may have occurred. I noticed you’re using a cookie/consent related feature, I wonder did this or any configurations for this have any impact.

If you run into any other issues be sure to reach out. Best of luck!
