Thanks for reaching out. We’ve made some changes to the plugin to allow for changes which can be made by switching languages using a translation plugin, see below:
    https://github.com/google/site-kit-wp/issues/2118

While you’re using TranslatePress and the above issue related primarily to WPML we’ve been troubleshooting similar reports with the same plugin, although unable to reproduce the issue so far. Any additional findings would be useful.

Before performing any troubleshooting steps can you update to 1.22.0 and check for the same issue, in particular when switching languages? I noticed you have 1.21.0 active at present.

    Hi James,

Thank you for the quick response!

I updated Google Site Kit to the latest version and retested it. The issue still appears. Though based upon the info I got from the link you shared, I did some further testing.

The error seems to be triggered ONLY if I am logged in as admin and going to the domain.com/en/page.
It does NOT trigger when I am in an incognito window with no user logged into the website and going to the domain.com/en/page.

There is one more scenario which I am wondering about, but which I cannot test yet due project timeline, is if a not-logged-in user would use one of the language switchers.

Hope it helps. Please let me know if I can support you in any way. ??

    Have a nice day.

    Kind regards,
    IADT

That’s great, appreciate the assistance. As we’ve so far been able to reproduce the below may prove useful:

    1. Do you have any other configurations applied other than the default, in particular on the “Advanced” tab within TranslatePress?
    2. Are you using any caching or optimization plugin, which may have additional features such as minification or combining of resources?

There is one more scenario which I am wondering about, but which I cannot test yet due project timeline, is if a not-logged-in user would use one of the language switchers.

From reports so far this only impacts logged in users.

    Hi James,

    1. Nothing was changed in the advanced tab.
    2. We do have Autoptimize installed for minification of js/css/html and cache management.

Also, thanks for info regarding it only impacting logged in users. Then this shouldn’t hold us back with going live with the new translation. I’ll test it either way.

Can we please keep this ticket open so you can keep me updated if there is a permanent fix? I’ll either way will have to check on a daily basis for now if Google Analytics didn’t get deactivated by accident.

    Thanks again for your support.

    Kind regards,
    IADT

just fyi; Autoptimize does not do page caching, only asset optimization.

@itsadesignthing Thanks for providing the additional info. Sure we’ll this topic open while we investigate further. We may also need to open a GitHub issue after I perform some additional testing. Please allow me some time to try and recreate. I’ll hopefully have an update for you at some stage tomorrow.

Hi there. I’ve spent some time today trying to replicate this same experience although I’ve been unsuccessful so far. If possible please share your Site Health information privately via this form and I can inspect your current setup.

Thanks for your patience on this as we troubleshoot this. We’ve been able to recreate the same experience with the option to “Use a subdirectory for the default language” set to “Yes”

Can you confirm you have the same settings applied?

    (@itsadesignthing)

    Hi James,

No, the default language (Dutch) as you can see below on the website does not use a subfolder:
    https://www.revivecoaching.be/

Then in case we use the English variant, it would be:
    https://www.revivecoaching.be/en/

Anything else I can do to support? ??

    Kind regards,

Thanks for the update. We’ll perform some additional testing from our side. So far we’ve only experienced the same with that particular configuration. If it’s not too much trouble we’d greatly appreciate if you were able to provide a video of your experience so we can try and replicate it. Within the video if you could show your TranslatePress settings and then the steps you take to preproduce.

You can use a service such as recordit.co, loom.com or any other video or gif service.

Another troubleshooting option is to test for the same experience with just Site Kit and TranslatePress active in “Troubleshooting” mode of the Health Check and Troubleshooting Plugin. Instructions are below:

    1. Install and activate the Health Check & Troubleshooting plugin.
    2. Navigate to “Plugins > Health Check & Troubleshooting > Troubleshoot”.
    3. From the same screen click on the “Available Plugins” tab at the top right and then click on the “Enable” option next to Site Kit and TranslatePress.
    4. Perform another translation as a logged in user

You can exit troubleshooting mode afterwards.

    Hi James,

    Sorry for the late response!

I did some testing using the Health Check plugin have not been able to pin point it yet. Though it seems that when I’m only using correct theme and plugins: elementor + site kit + translatepress, that the issue does not appear. I’ll try to continue working on it tomorrow.

Just in case I do not find the issue with the Health Check plugin, how can I share a video with you describing the issue?

    Kind regards,
    IADT

Great, thanks for the update. Feel free to share any video by providing the link here from Google Drive or any other file or video hosting service such as loom or recordit.

We’d then be happy to try and recreate with similar configurations.

If you wish to share privately feel free to use the same form you previously used.

    Hi James,

I was able to find the issue using the Health Check plugin! ??

It depends whether or not I enable “Complianz”. A plugin used to easily setup a cookiebanner which automatically detects and blocks most type of cookies.
However, I have no clue why this is giving an issue. Do you have any idea?

    Thank you for your support!

    Kind regards,
    IADT
