    Hello all,

I hope someone here can help my. I recently migrated my website to another host. Now unfortunately site kit from Google doesn’t work anymore (I need to setup the plugin again but get the error “the website already exist”). I deleted the plugin and re-installed it, also manually within file manager, but without any result. Because I can’t setup the plugin I can’t come in admin settings to delete the records (that to my knowledge would cause the error). I hope someone here has the solution. Many Many thanks!

Thanks for reaching out @websitetotaal01. Depending on how you migrated your site, it’s possible that not all your site records may not match what Site Kit is looking for when attempting to set up the plugin with your site at it’s new location. Some records may refer to your old setup.

To determine more on this, please share the following:

    1. Your Site Health information. You can use this form to share privately if preferred.??
    2. When you mention you already deleted your records, can you confirm whether you reset the plugin? If not, please don’t perform this action just yet.
    3. What is the URL in the address bar when you land back on a page where it states your site already exists? I ask as it may contain details of the records from your old site, that Site Kit is looking for.

Depending on your response, we can perform a couple of actions. This may involve changing your wp-admin path to match what it may have been previously, or changing some of your WordPress settings.

Let me know if you have any questions with the above.

    Dear James,

Thank you for your response. Of course I will provide the information you need:

    1. I filled out the form
    2. I didn’t remove the records as far as I know. I only deleted the plugin from the WordPress dashboard. When that didn’t help I also deleted it manually in the file manager, to make sure no plugin files where still on the website. But still no result
    3. The URL is: https://www.archipel-onderhoudsbedrijf.nl/wp-admin/index.php?action=googlesitekit_proxy_setup_start&nonce=e2415f8239

    Thank you.

Thanks for sharing the additional information @websitetotaal01. Based on what you’re experiencing, let’s perform a couple of checks.

Firstly, can you let me know if the same occurs if you temporarily deactivate WPS Hide Login? I ask is this can interfere with Site Kit setup, if the previous connected wp-admin path doesn’t match your current setup.

If the same occurs, we can then revisit your WordPress general settings.

Let me know how you get on with this check, or ask if you have any questions.

I’m just following up with you to check whether the error remains? If so please share the information requested above with the suggestion to deactivate a plugin, and we can then investigate this further.

Hi James, sorry for the late response. The error still occurs when WPS Hide Login is disabled. Once again thanks for your time to help out.

Sorry to hear that @websitetotaal01. Based on this, there are a couple of things we can do. Firstly, if you’re happy to switch to a non www version of your site, even temporarily, I can provide you with the troubleshooting steps in order to do this. It would involve removing the www prefix in both site URLs in your WordPress general settings, similar to the changes as per this support topic.

Secondly, if preferred, I can request a check of your records on the Site Kit service, which registered your callback URLs and other records.

Let me know what if you prefer, or ask if you have any questions.

    Hi James,

Both options are fine for my. As long as it works and we don’t loose our rankings because of switching to a non www version. Thank you in advance.

    Kind regards,
    Karym

Excellent, thanks for the update @websitetotaal01. Let’s first of all try the below:

    1. Visit your site settings (Settings > General).
    2. Change your site address (URL) and WordPress address (URL) from?https://www.archipel-onderhoudsbedrijf.nl?to?https://archipel-onderhoudsbedrijf.nl?(removing the www prefix).
    3. Press the save button.
    4. Attempt Site Kit setup once more after logging back into your site.

Should the same occur, please share a recording of your experience and we can investigate this further. You can use a service such as Loom or RecordIt to share a screen recording, while using the same form previously used to share this privately.?

    Thanks James,

When changing to a non www version the error doesn’t occur anymore. What are the next steps? And would a non www version influence my already indexed pages and ranking, in case we need to leave it in this setup? Thanks in advance.

Glad to hear that @websitetotaal01, and really appreciate your willingness to perform these troubleshooting steps.

To answer your question regarding indexing and ranking, this shouldn’t have any impact. What you can do now that you’ve switched, is to try the opposite, and checking does Site Kit recognise this as a URL change. Can you perform the same steps by reverting to the www version of your site? Please don’t reset Site Kit first, instead change your site URLs and check does Site Kit recognize a URL change, suggesting you go through the set up flow once more.

Just following up with you to confirm all is working as expected @websitetotaal01?

I’m also happy to request a correction of your records on the Site Kit service if you wish to revert to the www version of your site. Let me know if you wish for me to do so.
