Site loading slowly

  • Hi everyone,

    Over the last week my WP site has been very sluggish to load–and if it didn’t load, it would give me a 500 error or time out.

    It was extremely frustrating and my first thought was that it had something to do with my server/host…and after some email exchanges back and forth with their support; they’ve said it’s not a server/hosting issue but a WP issue–static content and regular html loads normally.

    Does anyone have any suggestions as to why my site is acting this way, and perhaps offer some suggestions as to what I can do to fix/make the performance better?

    It drives me crazy that it takes such a looong time to load and also if I’m working on updates that they get “stuck” while I’m working in the dashboard.

  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem? If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the Twenty Ten theme to rule out any theme-specific problems?
