Site lost during/after update from 3.9.1

    Help please as I’m quite a newbie to WordPress.

    I recently tried to update my site from 3.9.1 to 4.0.1.

    The message came back that the update installation had failed and when I tried to navigate through WP nothing would respond.
    Since then, I can’t even log into my site, and when entering the domain all I get is a blank screen.
    Although I was updating to 4.0.1, since then I now think it’s gone to 4.1 with me trying to retrieve the situation.

    Looking at my control panel my public_html files still seem to be intact, so I would appreciate some advice on what has gone wrong and how I can retrieve the situation please.

  • Oh, so sorry I missed this. So try now downloading a new copy of WP to your local computer and then upload new copies of all files and folders EXCEPT wp-config.php and wp-content folder. Be sure you delete the old versions first, so you know they are cleanly replaced.
