• Hello. One of my clients lost all the information on his server and now I need to restore his website.

I have a copy of all the files and xml file that I extracted from wordpress. But, unfortunately, I do NOT have a full database backup from cpanel.

Is this enough to restore the website? Should I install a new wordpress and link it to a new database, and then, add the files and this xml?

    HEEEEEEEELP! ??

What do you mean by lost all the information on his server; the client lost the credentials? Or did the hosting providers wipe his account clean?

Sorry but without a copy of the database, you cannot restore the site. You might be able to restore some of the content via the .xml file but all of the images & attachments will definitely have to be re-uploaded manually via WordPress.

I dont know what happened yet. I just know that they had some sort of trouble with their server, and now, there’s nothing there :/

Hmmmm… @esmi but I have all the wordpress files. All the images and themes and stuff… Even like this?

Even stuff like that. Sorry but the real meat/content for the site was all in the database – not in any files.

baaaah :/ But, I will be able to restore the theme and content and then upload the rest manually, right?

I will “just” have to reassemble it all right?

The theme and plugins should be no problem – assuming you know what plugins were used and how they were configured.

You might be able to persuade the .xml import to run despite the fact that it won’t be able to pull in any attachments (assuming the export included attachments). The only way to really know for sure is going to be “try it and see”. Then it will be a case of uploading and re-inserting missing images etc.

If you do get the site back up again, do consider installing a decent database backup plugin – preferably one that emails you a backup file that can be stored offsite.

I will do that. Do you have any suggestions?

    Sorry? Suggestions regarding…?
