    Hi there,

We’re really struggling here with a broken Site Map – We’ve followed the support article about how to resolve and just want to check we’re on the right lines.

We’ve checked the functions.php file and have found at the end a closing PHP <? tag…is this something that needs to be removed?

I’m wary of doing this in case of major breakage.

If someone could assist, I’d be extremely grateful. Thanks for now.

    Regards,

    Dan

    Hi @blacktigercreative ,
Normally this happens when a poorly written plugin or theme’s PHP file is incorrectly outputting a closing PHP ?> tag, followed by some extra lines.

So if you’ve located a closing PHP tag in your functions.php file that could be causing this then you can download a copy/backup of the functions.php file to keep safe and then remove the closing PHP tag.

    Hi there @shivamtyagi

Thank you for your reply. Just to confirm, there isn’t anything after the ?<, the closing PHP ?> is the final entry on the fucntions.php

I assume this means the problem isn’t that closing tag because there’s nothing after that?

    Thanks again for your help.

    Regards,

    Dan

    Hey @blacktigercreative,

It might not necessarily be your theme that’s causing the issue. It might be also be another plugin. I would suggest that you first temporarily switch to another theme to confirm whether your theme is or is not the cause of the issue.

If it isn’t, I’d go ahead and disable all other plugins and start reactivating them one by one until you’ve found the culprit. If you’re doing this on a live website, you might want to install the Health Check & Troubleshooting plugin which lets you deactivate plugins and switch themes without affecting your actual live site.
