When I click on Appearance > Menu’s in the WP Dashboard, to edit the toolbar along the top of my site, I am unable to add new categories to the menu’s.

The grey ‘loading’ circle just keeps spinning and spinning and never adds the new categories when I check the checkbox and click on ‘Add to menu’.

This was just working perfectly fine a little while ago (perhaps a week, more or less) and now all of a sudden it’s not. I’m not sure what changed or is different now that is making it act up.

My library media files are doing the same thing (constantly spinning, never actually loading) but I made a different thread about that issue. I just don’t know if maybe they’re related somehow.

    Please let me know, thanks

P.S. If it helps any, I am using the Genesis Child sample theme for my site, as well as google chrome browser.

  • While you are on the page that is giving errors, check if you have any errors in the console when you see the gery circle spinnning. You can launch the console by pressing Ctrl Shift I, if you are on windows. If you are on Mac, press Cmd Shift I

When the console launches, navigate to the console “tab” and see if there are any errors or warnings. Post them here if yuou see anything fishy.

    Hello,

I looked to see if errors were appearing by using your instructions and yes, turns out they are. Also… the longer I leave the page open as it tries to load, the more the errors pile up. :/

    I took a screenshot which can be seen here;

Anything I could try to fix these?

    Thanks ??

Can you replicate the problem using the default 2016 theme?

    Hey evryone,

So I did some testing to see if I could fix this by reverting to a backup from last Friday. Everything was working perfectly fine just this past Friday, and go figure – once I restored the backup everything was working well again.

So then I reupdated to the recent version of wordpress (4.5.3) and updated all my plugins – and everything is still fine.

I am still completely lost and confused as to what exactly happened and how it happened, and so I’m hoping it doesn’t happen again because I won’t know how to fix it lol. xD

But I’m going to keep the backup, I’m glad I got everything fixed again and only lost a few days worth of work, still a bummer but better than before.

Also going to mark this as resolved – as well as the other threads I made regarding the issue.

Thanks so much for offering suggestions and for your time and assistance >> was much appreciated!!

    Have a good week ??
