    We migrated a client site using Yoast 4.x and after pushing the site live, Yoast manually set the canconical link for every page as the link on dev site. Since the entire dev site was marked noindex, Google crawled the site and de-indexed almost everything before we caught it. Upgrading to Yoast fixed the original canonical issue, but now the majority of pages/posts are no longer listed in Google and the “Validate Fix” button in Google Search Console can apparently take weeks to months to re-crawl and re-index these pages.

    Does anyone know how to speed up this process or bypass it completely so we can get our pages re-indexed in Google ASAP?

    Hi,

    The latest version of Yoast SEO is v15.9.2.

    Just to clarify, you migrated and pushed a site live while it was using the much older version of Yoast SEO v4.x?

    We understand this issue regarding the canonicals fixed itself after updating to the latest version of Yoast SEO.

    We’re not aware of any method to speed up the process to validate the fix on the end of Google Search Console, as it would depend on them on the frequency of when they would recrawl your website for the updated information, which comes down to a lot of different factors.

    If you haven’t yet, we recommend that you also submit your sitemap to Google Search Console and monitor the changes on your coverage and see if these URLs then eventually get indexed — https://yoast.com/help/submit-sitemap-search-engines/

    It was actually most likely Yoast 14.x, that must’ve been a typo. From what I can tell, validating a fix in GSC can take weeks to months, so the only other possible solution is using the Google Index API to resubmit URLs in bulk. Not a fun process.

    @jaykdoe Thanks for your reply.

    Regarding the issue you are experiencing, it may help to remove and resubmit the sitemap if you haven’t already. ?

    We also have a guide on submitting sitemaps in Google Search Console located here: https://yoast.com/help/submit-sitemap-search-engines/#google
