• My site sparkleball.com is crashing randomly and almost daily since December. Blackouts last for minutes or up to an hour. I can see the downtime via Jetpack monitoring. Have also checked site and yep, it’s down.

    Hosting Site suggested 4 culprits, which are pretty much over my head except for plugins. I am disabling those one by one. First was WPCache. Crashing continued. Reactivated it.

    Network Solutions says:
    Bad plugins (such as cache or backup plugins) that run intermittently or on random page/site loads. You may want to disable any such plugins to see if these are the cause.
    ? Incorrectly coded “.htaccess” rules such as mod_rewrite, user_agent, and other rules or settings in the file that may affect some visits or page loads but not others.
    ? Too many page requests or too long of a page load time. This can occur with many systems (especially Joomla) that are set to perform certain functions every “X” page loads.
    ? A custom PHP setting that is not set the way the application specifies (such as “register_globals”). You may need to change PHP settings by using a custom “php.ini” file in your “cgi-bin” folder.
    If these do not correct your errors, you may want to check with the software vendor to find out why the errors are occurring specific to your installation. I apologize, but we cannot investigate the cause of intermittent internal server errors on your application.

    I was afraid my site was too heavy with images, but on SKETCH forum admin checked and said not.

    You may want to look at https://www.ads-software.com/hosting/ for some host recommendations.

    Network Solutions should be able to tell you why the site is crashing. They have logs they can look at.

    Hi @sterndata,

    I will attempt both courses of action. So far, NS has blamed me or WP and not been helpful. Today I’ve paid for their retail support service, so I’ll mention the log, which is helpful! I have all the dates from Jetpack, so I’ll have them ready.

    @sterndata,

    one more thing. yesterday — out of the blue– my entire site went down in a different way. No images loaded. I removed all plugins. It seemed to be Jetpack. In the end I restored everything but “Photon” which may have conflicted with WPCache. The site was restored. Whew. Could that be my problem?

    I have had some issues with Photon in the past and tend to avoid it now.

    @sterndata thanks! I’m hoping that’s my problem and it’s fixed.
