• Hi there,

New to WordPress and currently trying to create a new site and then migrate a different site to WordPress however, I am currently having issues with the new site I am creating. I may be missing something small however, it is not that easy to spot if I am.

Currently, no matter how many times I try and change the site name, email, and website to what it should actually be, it fails to change and reverts back to xxx’.preview-domain.com’ for all three. When trying to change the email it says “If you change this, an email will be sent at your new address to confirm it.?The new address will not become active until confirmed.” however, nothing has ever been received in my emails – I have checked to make sure the emails are working after DNS changes to custom which is part of the Hostinger process.

Can I get any help on this please? The website I am trying to build has the xx’.preview-domain.com’ every time the site name is mentioned. Quite frustrating.

I look forward to hearing from you!

  • Hi @aidenboyd1,

There are many methods on how to change your WordPress site URL, you may want to review your steps on how to correctly change it here: https://www.wpbeginner.com/wp-tutorials/how-to-change-your-wordpress-site-urls-step-by-step/

In regard to receiving the verification email when changing the email address associated with your site admin email, check the steps here: https://www.wpbeginner.com/beginners-guide/how-to-change-the-wordpress-admin-email

    I hope that helps!

    Best regards,
    Niko

    Hi @aidenboyd1,

Thanks for posting. Please state what you’ve done in your attempt to change the site name. Did you go to Settings > General on your site dashboard and done the change from there? Please clarify.

To add to what @nheeko has put across, you can use PHPMyAdmin to help you (if you’re comfortable with digging into cPanel, and depending on your hosting). Here’s a great resource to help you change the admin email address.

You will need to setup SMTP to guarantee receipt of emails. Visit this link for more on this approach.

Please post back if you need further assistance.

    Hi there,

To confirm, I did attempt to change the email address via Settings > General on the site dashboard > remove the ’.preview-domain.com’ and replace it with ‘.io’ (the correct ending for the email) > Save – nothing changes. The message I get below the email box is:
This address is used for admin purposes. If you change this, an email will be sent to your new address to confirm it.?The new address will not become active until confirmed.

The site address and wordpress address were changed successfully – finally and after doing the same thing I was previously, strange..

Would this be related to the my profile section where I can see the email and website there is incorrect as it has ‘.preview-domain.com’ instead of ‘.io’ – at no point have I selected ‘.preview-domain.com’. I should probably note, I am using Hostinger for hosting and the email is through G suite (emails are working fine after testing through G suite)

I will give the provided links a try, thank you

I should also probably note that the username is also ‘.preview-domain.com’ for some reason without me setting it as that – i thought i put that in my previous response, sorry.
