Tried installing plugin from WP as well as the Jetpack site without success. Disabled all plugins with no success.

Installed on WAMP localhost with no success although on localhost it did “connect” but that was about it. Activating the “Widget Visibility” bit activated but that was all.

Tried activating with more than one theme, including twentyfourteen, with no success.

Are you sure this thing works? Any suggestions would be appreciated as I would like to try some of its functions.

If your site isn’t publicly accessible, Jetpack can’t reach it to connect.

For now, use Development Mode: https://jetpack.com/support/development-mode/

My site is most assuredly publicly available:

I still get the 403 error and the plugin doesn’t work properly in localhost development mode, either. I must be doing something wrong or there is an incompatibility somewhere other than the other plugins.

In order to work properly in a localhost environment, you need to use development mode, as the site is not publicly accessible when it is in the localhost environment.

As for the publicly accessible site not connecting, contact the folks behind Jetpack at https://jetpack.com/contact-support/

Finally got it to work by going back to the original .htaccess file generated when first installing WP.

Not certain how .htaccess got changed, but it must have somehow. All is good now, except that I still can’t get the Jetpack function “Widget Visibility” to show up.

This is a problem as it was the sole reason I installed Jetpack to begin with. C’est la vie!

Did you enable the Widget Visibility module at Jetpack -> Settings in your site’s Dashboard?

i did and got nothing in the localhost development mode. I then installed the stand alone version of the widget visibility plugin and that worked fine fo all of the widgets except the one I wanted to hide.

I was also able to connect to Jetpack on my live site by replacing the .htaccess file with the one that came with WordPress. Of course, I am now getting much more of the long, rambling spam that I had blocked but that’s the way it goes.

    Thanks for the reply.
