Site only displaying Index of /

    Hello! Hoping for some help (for a friend). His site (https://www.gasketeers.com/) is currently only displaying Index of /

    My knowledge of WP limited, and I’ve seen this issue reported but the fixes are a bit above my head.

    I think the site may be compromised (speculation) as when i look in the admin panel there are ~84k comments made for ever various spam you could imagine.

    Anyway – any advice in lay-terms would be appreciated. the site is on 4.3.1, i’ve tried to reinstall, but receive the below error

    try MANUALLY updating. Download a fresh copy of the WordPress .zip file to your computer, unzip it, and use that to copy up all files and folders EXCEPT the wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory. You may need to delete the old wp-admin and wp-includes folders and files on your server before uploading the new ones. Read the Manual Update directions first.

    thanks for the reply tara, im getting lost when the instructions indicate deleting/replacing files on the webhost. is that accessible via the admin panel? I think i need to access via FTP, but I don’t know how to do that

    – your hosting provider can assist you with this.
    – if you are using ftp client such as FileZilla, then review this WP codex guide: https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Using_FileZilla

    just an update, this has been fixed. For some reason the index.php file was renamed (index18.php) causing the issue. Once i renamed, it worked.
