• Subject: site planning and navigation strategy

    Hello,
Im currently developing a small project of my own called tour.pt (Portugal), I’m still stuck on site planning and navigation so I need someone to shine a light on the matter.

main page: blog featuring latest posts in each category from all cities + a select city option

Should cities be main categories or pages? I assume they will have to be pages..

so, tour.pt/city-1-page > displays featured posts about city-1, the problem is, I would need a custom menu for this specific page:

    where-to-stay | eating-out | see&do | about-city-1 | trivia

because each city is unique and “where to stay, eat and do” options change from city-1 to city-2.

    Any thought that might help?
    p.s. IM USING Genesis

    Thanks

  • Hi,

The main different between pages and categories is that page is static page (think “About” page) whereas category would show up all posts that belong to that category. See my test blog for some examples: https://janistest.wordpress.com/

Basically, if you are planning to add new posts to each city all the time, category is your choice. If you want to use a static page where you need to add/remove text, then pages is what you need. I hope you get the idea.

What if you create a menu listing all cities and then sub-menus for places to eat, where to stay etc under each of the menu item?

Here’s what Im trying to accomplish:
a page-blog per city, with custom menu each..

A single menu listing all cities and the submenus for places to eat gets a little bulky since its many stuff..
