Site running slow with contact form 7

I have a website with one contact form on the front page. During developing, the site was fast, but since I released the website, it has been slow.
I also have the addon Honeypot against spam, but it doesn’t seem to help speed up anything.
In my cpanel, I have watched the Entry processes peak at 20/20 with the plugin active and dwindle to 6/20 with the plugin deactivated.
I don’t understand why it’s causing this. I have contact form 7 on all my sites without any problems.
