• I have a 10 page website for a small business who provides cleaning services for carpet, tile, stone, upholstery, etc. Currently none of the pages on the website have a parent page. However, one of my main menu items is “services” and under that are pages for each type of service they offer. “Services” does not link anywhere – it’s just there to keep the menu organized.

For SEO purposes, I think I should have the URL structure be something like https://companyname.com/services/carpet-cleaning. Is there a way to do this without having to create a separate page for services? Or do I need to have a service page for better SEO?

    Thank you!
    Jennifer

  • Hi Jeniffer,

You say “it’s just there to keep the menu organized.” Having something on a website in the menu and not being able to view its content may be frustrating for customers. If you do not have a “services” section (which I am not sure why) then just don’t keep it in the menu.

Having a clean URL like you have mentioned is a good practice for SEO. It wouldn’t harm to have another page for the “Services” section and the content added in there can also help in SEO. There are multiple plugins available with WordPress that assist with SEO of website. Have you tried any?

I have worked with Yoast SEO in the past and its really good for some basic setup of SEO. May be you should give it a shot?
