Site Stuck in ‘Checking Compatibilty’ on live site
-
The set up page is stuck on ‘Checking Compatibility’. There were a couple of other items not working, so I copied the site on to test server and it worked straight away. Is there something in the server settings that could be causing it to get stuck?
The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

Thanks for reaching out @ruthvant2022. There are indeed cases whereby a host or server setting can impact Site Kit setup. Issues can include a web application firewall blocking connection, restiction to your WordPress REST API or cURL related errors. Given there are no issues on your test server, so we can determine more on what’s happening in your case, please share the following:
- Your?Site Health information. You can?use this form?to share privately if preferred.?
- When attempting setup from a Chrome browser incognito window does the same occur? If so, please share any browser console errors that appear.?
- Is there a continuously loading “Checking compatibility” notice, without this leading to any further error? I ask as there can be additional errors shown within the Site Kit setup screen in such cases.
- Do you see any warnings or errors when checking your Site Health status? (Tools > Site Health > Status), which differs from your Site Health information requested above? Such errors may include REST endpoint references.
Once we have the above we can advise on this further and hopefully ensure Site Kit works as expected for you. Let me know if you have any questions with the above.
I fixed one warning that 'fileinfo' wasn't activated, but that didn't help

- When attempting setup from a Chrome browser?incognito window?does the same occur? If so, please share any?browser console errors?that appear.?
- Is there a continuously loading “Checking compatibility” notice, without this leading to any further error? I ask as there can be additional errors shown within the Site Kit setup screen in such cases.
- Do you see any warnings or errors when checking your Site Health status? (Tools > Site Health > Status), which differs from your Site Health information which you previously shared? Such errors may include REST endpoint references.
Let me know if you have any questions with the above.
Hi
- Same thing
- Just this ‘Checking Compatibility….’ no other errors
- You should remove inactive plugins
You should remove inactive themes
You should use a persistent object cache
Much appreciated @ruthvant2022. Given some of the plugins you have active could potentially impact Site Kit setup, please perform the steps below:
- Install and activate the Health Check & Troubleshooting plugin.
- Navigate to “Plugins > Health Check & Troubleshooting > Troubleshoot”.
- From the same screen click on the “Available Plugins” tab at the top right and then click on the “Enable” option next to “Site Kit by Google“.
- Attempt to set up Site Kit once more.
Let me know if you have any questions with the above.
Hi, I’ve already tried that I’m afraid and it made no difference. Also same plugins on the copy of the site and it’s fine.
Sorry to hear that @ruthvant2022. There are a couple more things we can perform to try and determine the issue. Please share the following:
- Does the same occur if you visit your permalinks page (Settings > Permalinks) and press the “Save change” button? This will recreate a fresh .htaccess file for you. I ask as rules applied at .htaccess level can impact Site Kit behavior.? I ask as I noticed some additional .htaccess rules in your Site Health information.
- Does the same occur if you uninstall and reinstall the plugin once more? This would help rule out any plugin files that are corrupt from a previous update or uninstall.
Let me know if you have any questions with the above. If the same does occur, let me know if you see any invalid XHR responses on the continuous loading screen. If so please share them using the same form previously used, and not publicly here in the forums.?
Error:?Your?

Click in the field and press?Ctrl + A?(or?? + A?on Mac) to select all.RewriteEngine On RewriteRule .* – [E=HTTP_AUTHORIZATION:%{HTTP:Authorization}] RewriteBase / RewriteRule ^index.php$ – [L] RewriteRule ^download/(.+)$ /https://moosicology.com/wp-content/force-download.php?file=uploads/$1 [QSA,L] RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteRule . /index.php [L]
Thanks for the update @ruthvant2022. If you wish, using your hosting control panel file manager, you can try to apply the standard .htaccess content to your site.
Another option is to compare that file on your test site that is working, to that of your current site where you’re facing issues.
It appears to have been a database issue. I exported and imported to a fresh database and all it now working. Thank for the help
Interesting @ruthvant2022, and nice troubleshooting. This will come in handy should other users report the same. Thanks for sharing your findings.
If you run into any further errors or if you have any Site Kit related queries, be sure to get in touch.
