Site subscribers – are notofications sent automatically ?

    I have my WordPress site running for a while, but I do not understand something about subscribing to my site.
    In the users list I can see several people that added their details as subscribers. Does it mean that from now on they will get an email notification whenever new content is available ? Does it happen automatically or should I do something to send them the notification ?

    Not unless you install a plugin to do just this. WordPress does not send out any emails – with the exception of forgotten password requests – by default.

    So, does subscribing to my site without having the plugin really means anything ?

    With default settings, the subscriber role allows users to login to a WordPress website and leave comments without having to enter their details every time. This role is useful for people who frequently read a blog and are actively commenting. It can make leaving comments on a blog much easier and faster
