For the last 4 hours I have been working on fine-tuning my wordpress site at https://208.109.173.184/ (using a dedicated ip until everything’s ready) by changing the main page template, the stylesheet, and the side bar and all of a sudden the site changed from a fully functional site with sidebar, header graphic, footer etc. to a stripped down version with no graphics and everything in a list. I’m not sure what I did or what’s going on so any help would be much appreciated.

    Thanks
    Dicken

  • Don’t copy/paste from MS Word…
    See the results: https://validator.w3.org/check?verbose=1&uri=http%3A%2F%2F208.109.173.184%2F

Thanks for pointing that out. I’ve now deleted all of the posts that were copied and pasted from MS word. It still looks the same.

    Any other thoughts?

That was only part of the problem.
You need to validate the site if you want helpers to take a look at the code.

OK, I just swapped out the index, sidebar, and footer files, which were causing the validator problems and the problem is still there. Any thoughts?

I forgot to mention that the files I swapped in were the original files that came with the theme I am using “Twilight”

is your Admin area ok? if so go Admin > Presentation > and change to the Default theme, and then see if your site is there.

Thanks for your advice. I changed the theme to the default and everything came back online. I then took down the theme I am working on, uploaded the original files and uploaded the files I had been working on one by one. The problem was the stylesheet.css file. Although it looks clean from an html perspective there was a bug in it somewhere that turned the whole site off.
Thanks again for your help. Much appreciated.

I am glad you figured it out.

I’ve learned that disabling my theme, and/or disabling plugins, is the first way to diagnose a problem with a site not appearing.
