    Hi,

When I don’t change the SEO title in Jetpack’s SEO settings (see screenshot 1) I only get the post title on Facebook. This is desirable and I think standard (see screenshot 2). In Edge, the page title is then provided with a | sign (see screenshot 3).

When I enter the SEO post title (see screenshot 4) on Facebook I get the whole post title. This is really not desirable. The post title in Edge is as I have set it, but on Facebook the entire set SEO title now appears instead of just the post title (see screenshot 5).

Can anything be done about this? I have all SEO titles the same except for the post title because I then get the entire title on Facebook in the link example.

    Hi there

It’s expected that whatever SEO template you set for your post titles will be used as the post title when shared to social media.

There isn’t currently a way to customize the post title for social media only.

You may be able to write some custom code to alter this behaviour, but that’s not something we’re able to advise on here.

    Hi Dan,

Isn’t this a bug? If I don’t change the title, I just get the post title on sical media.

That SEO title is there for a reason. You must be able to fill this in. So if I do this I get the whole title on social media and that is absolutely NOT desirable.

I’m definitely not handy with codes so I wouldn’t know how to solve this myself.

    Hi @marijnvdgruiter

When you don’t change the SEO Title, you are getting the post title as a default. When you enter the SEO Title as you have shown in screenshot #4, that is overriding the post title default.

In the code provided, you are setting the title to:

Post Title – Site Name – Site Tagline

What you circled in screenshot #5 is the Site Tagline. You might try using your code for the site’s front page, but then just using the Post Title for the Posts.

We have more information on how to use this feature here:

    Hi @bobmatyas,

Thanks for your comment. I just don’t understand the last part. If I only enter the post title at the post title, I will of course only have the post title on Facebook etc. Only for all pages, categories etc. I have set the same tagline and stite tile. If one visits my site in Edge or FireFox or what ever then there is the same title everywhere. That’s just neat. Only you do not want to have the entire tagline and site title on Social media.

Because this doesn’t happen if I leave the post title empty in the SEO settings. I thought this was a bug. I don’t think it makes sense that this is presented on social media.`

Basically, whenever you use Jetpack to perform your SEO / social titling, it overrides any default setting, so the need to change the information as Bob mentioned would be required to do what you’re wanting to display here.

Please let us know if you have any other questions!
