• I’m an independent web developer using WordPress for some of my clients. One of them, https://www.apdaiowa.org, has run into a problem I’m not familiar with.

The site owners were doing an update last night when the site suddenly went blank on them. They can’t access the site, login, or specific pages of the site. However, I can access all the above without any trouble. I can make updates to pages/posts and they show in my browser as well as another computer I checked it on. I had my business partner check the site from his location halfway across the country, and no problem.

The error messages being received by the owners are “communication error” and “page cannot be displayed.” I’ve checked the host, and everything is fine with it.

So, what could be causing this and how do I fix it? We’re checking the site via desktop computers, not mobile.

  • Have you tried contact your hosts? We suspect that some hosting companies may have recently tightened their security – causing issues for many of their users. Have you spoken to your hosts about this?

I have talked with the host, 1&1, and they didn’t have any changes. However, I updated WordPress just before I posted this and it seems to have solved the problem. A couple plugins need updated, but that’s it.

I’m still not sure what happened, but I’m glad it’s working for everyone now.
