Trying to get a bit of an understanding on this plugin. We have an existing SiteGround site with an existing WordPress installation that was quite out of date. Rather than trying to run massive updates to a live site, I purchased a new SiteGround site (that I’ll be re-purposing later) to create a new WordPress install from the ground up with new themes, plugins, content, etc… with the intent to just wipe and replace the existing WordPress site.

We’re finally ready to migrate and replace the existing live site, which lead me to discover this plugin. I noticed in Cpanel that if I try to generate a key, it gives me a message about a site already existing at the destination. So the first question, if I just delete the existing install on the live site, would I then be able to go through with the Migrator, or would there be more to it? I don’t want to delete the existing install only to have the Migrator still be unable to generate a key.

The plugin is designed to show an error message when you try to migrate TO a folder that has somethiing in it. Move your existing site to a different folder and initiate the transfer, it should work just fine.
