I have a couple of sites where I have tried to connect Google Site Kit to an existing GA4 property. When I am in the Analytics setup section it shows me a drop down list of properties in the selected account, however the GA4 I need is not in that list. I have checked all the permissions and I am logging in with the correct Google account etc.

The GA4 property is working fine and I can connect it with a manual tag insertion in the <head> of the site, I just can’t select it in Site Kit for some reason. The only option is to ‘create a new property’. But when doing this, then disconnecting and reconnecting Site Kit, it can no longer find the new one either.

Our agency has 300+ websites setup in this way and it hasn’t been an issue in others.

Hello @shaunbowen thanks for getting in touch. We have seen similar issues to this in the past so I will do my best to help you out here and get this working for you.

Can you first confirm if this is when trying to select the Analytics property or web data stream from your account? Could you please also share your?Site Health information. You can?use this form?to share privately if preferred. Could you also share the following information:

    1. Do you encounter the same when trying from an?incognito browser?
    2. Are you the only user with access to the Google account that this property/data stream is in?
    3. Share any screenshots or recordings if possible as that will help greatly in seeing what’s happening here. You can share these privately in the form above.

Let me know if you have any questions on the above information in the meantime.

    Hi Adam,

I have submitted the Site Health information as requested.

Using an incognito browser window did not work wither.

Yes there are other users with access to this GA4 property, however the property was setup with the account I have used to connect Site Kit.

@shaunbowen Thanks for sharing all of the information that’s very helpful indeed. I can see from your screenshot of Site Kit while checking for the property that Site Kit has detected an existing tag on your site. Is this the same property you are looking to select and do you still have it placed manually on your site?

If this is the case, do you see the option to select the property if you remove the manually placed code for that property? Could you also try removing this if it is not the same property as the one you are trying to select.

@adamdunnage I only placed that code after I couldn’t get Site Kit to connect. The existence of that manual code makes no difference to the issue, as I have tested with and without it there.

@shaunbowen Thank you for confirming. Could I ask you to check if you experience the same when setting up Site Kit on this temporary WordPress site? This link will spin up a test site for you with Site Kit pre-installed.

Let me know how you get on with this and feel free to share any further screenshots or recordings in the process.

@adamdunnage I tried connecting analytics on that temporary site, and it still doesn’t show the property that I am looking for in the list.

@shaunbowen Thank you for confirming. Could I please ask you to share a recording of yourself creating a new Analytics property and trying to select this from the Site Kit Analytics setup? You can share this via the Site Health form. This could help me to see what may be happening here through this process.

Chiming in here as well as we have been having this same exact issue on a new site that was launched. We’ve done this on a ton of sites in the past and now on this new site with GA4 we can’t get the property to show up either. We went so far as creating a UA property to see if that was somehow still tied to the setup and the UA property will show up but the GA4 property will not. Our analytics team have combed through the GA4 property for this site as well as another site that launched maybe a couple of months prior and can’t find anything setup on the GA4 property side that is different that would cause this issue.

@tnolte Thanks for getting in touch. If you are facing an issue with your Site Kit then could I please ask you to open a new support topic where we can assist you individually with this, thanks!

@adamdunnage but this appears to be the exact same issue. I’m not clear on why you want a whole second duplicate topic created for the same issue. This makes it even harder for people to find solutions when the issue is spread out over multiple duplicate topics.

    (@shaunbowen)

@tnolte I agree – if you are having the exact same issue then surely this is the right place to comment!

it also reinforces that this is not due to my browser or particular website, but likely a bug with the Site Kit plugin.

@tnolte We ask you to do this per?forum guidelines. It also helps us to manage your issue better as we can link the information we request from you to help look into your case with your support topic. If you could do this it would be very helpful. Please could you also ensure to share your?Site Health information. You can?use this form?to share privately if preferred.?

@shaunbowen If you could share the recording of this it would help us with our troubleshooting of your issue. We are looking into this and I will also discuss further with the internal team to see what could be happening here.

@shaunbowen @tnolte Just dropping an update here for both of you. I have discussed this further with the internal team and this appears to be as a result of a cap on the number of properties Site Kit displays per account.

Currently, there is a limit of 50 displayed with those being the first 50 properties created for that account. We can improve on the number of properties we make available for selection however there is a limit.

I have created a new GitHub issue for improving the maximum number of properties Site Kit displays in the drop down. Please feel free to follow this issue for updates.

ah, interesting, that is going to be major issue for larger organizations. We manage 20+ sites for 1 client, with Production and non-Production properties all in the same account. We will certainly be adding more sites going forward and this would mean not being able to setup Site Kit on future sites.

@adamdunnage thanks for creating the GitHub issues, I’ve subscribed to both to keep track of the progress. Would there be a similar issue with the GTM connection?
