    WP 6.1.1, PHP 7.4

    When I try to set up SiteKit, on the landing page I get a warning that SiteKit can’t access WP REST API. It looks like this: https://sitekit.withgoogle.com/documentation/troubleshooting/setup/#rest-api

    Console is reporting the following errors:

    Hi @ventsyv,

    Thanks for getting in touch. As this error “The response is not a valid JSON response” is a generic WordPress error, which can be encountered outside of Site Kit, please share the following and we can investigate this further:

    1. Your Site Health information. You can use this form to share privately if preferred.??
    2. Did you have Site Kit successfully set up previously? I ask as from checking your public REST endpoints, it looks like you may have your WordPress files in it’s own directory. If you attempted Site Kit set up previously, the plugin may be trying to communicate with your site from an invalid location (or your WordPress install, before it was in it’s own directory).

    Once we have the above we can troubleshoot this further.

    Sorry for the late reply. I had some malware. After cleaning that up everything is working OK.
