• Resolved pimg

    (@pimg)

    Hello,
As many others have reported the sitemaps for some of our sites are completely blank but do show code when viewing the page source. I have already disabled the cache, disabled all other plugins, disabled and re-enabled the sitemap feature in the plugin, as well as checked the sitemap source code for extra spaces (there are none). It appears to also be related to be on the most up to date WP and WordPress SEO plugin since it is not happening on my other not as up to date sites. Any other ideas to resolve this?

    Thanks

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Hi,

Hmmm. It seems like the stylesheet (the code we use to make the sitemap be human readable) is not working correctly: https://www.michigantmjandsleep.com/main-sitemap.xsl. As the stylesheet fails to work, the sitemap appears blank.

We would like some more information.

    1. Can you confirm you are using WordPress 5.4.2? You can check by clicking on the W in the top left and selecting About. If you need to update, please check with your host provider.?Please know that if you are using an older version of WordPress Core you may experience unexpected behavior with Yoast.?This guide explains more:?https://yoast.com/why-we-dont-support-old-wordpress-versions/.

    2. Are all your non-Yoast plugins and themes also updated?

    3. Can you confirm your server has all the right requirements? Your host provider can help. This guide explains more: https://kb.yoast.com/kb/plugin-requirements/.
    ?
    4. If you add the rules listed here into your server: https://yoast.com/help/xml-sitemaps-apache/ does the issue resolve? If you are not sure how to add the rules your host provider can help. Be sure to then clear all your caches and see if the sitemap loads.

If you use NGINX use these rules here https://yoast.com/help/xml-sitemaps-nginx/.

    5. Verify with your host provider that no other rules in the server are affecting the stylesheet as well.

    1. Yes this is on WP 5.4.2

    2. Yes all other plugins and themes are updated.

    3. Yes the server exceeds all requirements and has several other sites on the same server that work but arent as up to date with WP and Yoast as mentioned in the original post.

    4. This server does not run Apache as it is running Litespeed so neither of those seem to apply and again sitemaps work on this server already with other sites not as up to date with no other rules needed.

    5. This server already serves other sitemaps correctly so it is not a server limitation.

    Hi,

As the stylesheet is loading, something is preventing it from getting applied to the actual sitemap file. We suggest two options:

    1. Does clearing your caching from your theme, plugin, server, CDN like CloudFlare or browser resolve the issue? If you are not sure how to clear caching from theme/plugin please speak to those authors. If you want to clear cache from the server, please speak to your host provider. To clear the cache from a browser use this guide: https://yoast.com/help/how-to-clear-my-browsers-cache/.

We ask as we are not sure if all the caching was disabled from all possible sources.

    2. If caching fails to resolve the issue, it sounds like a plugin or theme conflict. Please Check for conflicts. Install the Healthcheck plugin and enable troubleshooting. Then switch to a standard theme like 2020. Does the issue resolve? NOTE: This will not affect how users see your site.

We ask as we are not sure if a complete conflict was performed as described in the guide above.

If there is a conflict with a plugin or a theme, you can create a new GitHub issue?for our developers. Please report the issue to a third party developer as well.

I have already fully cleared and disabled the cache and the issue persist. It appears this is a widespread issue as I count 5+ reports in this forum alone in the past couple of weeks for this same exact error.

Chrome console outputs the following error, not sure if this is something yall can
    investigate as well:

Resource interpreted as Stylesheet but transferred with MIME type text/xml: “https://www.michigantmjandsleep.com/main-sitemap.xsl”.

    Hi,

The “Resource interpreted as Stylesheet but transferred with MIME type text/xml:” is likely an issue with the server. We are not sure if it is or is not related.

As the issue still happens even after deactivating all non-Yoast plugins and switching to a standard theme we recommend making an issue report.

We’re actively using the bug tracking on our GitHub repository so your best next step would be to create a new issue for our developers at https://github.com/Yoast/wordpress-seo/issues/new. You will need an account to create a new issue. If this is your first bug report, please check out: https://kb.yoast.com/kb/how-to-write-a-good-bug-report/.

@pimg I think 14.7 will solve your issue. However, can you please confirm if the site you’re having issues with is having its home and site URLs set to 2 different values? If so, you are likely running into this issue. Even though that issue is usually accompanied by PHP errors, your configuration might be configured in another way (cached, hidden 5xx status codes due to hardened security, etc).

    Hello,
Good to hear this has been fixed. Yes our site and home URL’s are set to 2 different values for security reasons.

Hello, this question may not go here but I’m searched everywhere in forums for where to start a new question and I just cannot find it. I hope someone sees this here. I emailed Yoast and they will not help since I’m using the free version of their plugin. Here is my question but without the screenshot:

I’m using your free plugin version and just submitted my sitemaps to google search console but two site maps show the error “couldn’t fetch”. Can you help me fix this error please? Thank you.
