Smartcrawl gets the canonical instead url permalink to build the sitemap.xml

That should be nice, but sometimes the canonical URL is not in the same domain so it does not make sense to build the sitemap with external urls.

Of course crawlers are going to follow the canonical link once the page is crawled, and by the way the original content is mine too, but I dont want my sitemap to show external urls.

    Hi @lolorb81

    I hope you’re well today!

I believe that the main purpose of the Canonical URLs is to tell crawlers which URL to index – if there’s multiple URLs with the “same” content they shouldn’t all be indexed. So that would make sense to “redirect” crawlers to those “main” URLs instead of “duplicated” ones.

But you can set a given page individually to not be indexed via “SmartCrawl” meta box below post editor, in ‘Advanced” section – such page shouldn’t be then included in sitemap so it wouldn’t be indexed.

    Kind regards,
    Adam
