Sitemap index showing blank

    Hi,

    I submitted my sitemap index in the Search Console but it is showing blank for several days. It is not showing my sitemap listed in the index although it does contain a sitemap. Please see this screenshot: https://nimb.ws/VpImYW

    Please advise what could be wrong.

    Issue was caused by:

    Pages being excluded from search engines in settings and the Yoast SEO box being disabled on pages.

    I thought the issue would be solved by above settings, but unfortunately the problem is not resolved. My Google Search Console still shows the sitemap index as blank after several days: https://nimb.ws/VpImYW

    Please advise what could be wrong?

    Hello Nabeel,

    I am sorry to learn about the troubles with your sitemap. If you view the sitemap index, are there sub-sitemaps in there? And do these subsequently have URLs in them?

    If your sitemap is showing URLs now, but is still not appearing in Google Search Console as expected, we’d recommend resubmitting it. Our guide on submitting sitemaps in Google Search Console is located here for reference: Resubmit your sitemap to search engines.

    Thanks, but I have resubmitted it several times and it still has the same issue.

    The ‘SEE INDEX COVERAGE’ button is disabled although Google is able to crawl the URLs.

    Robots.txt does not disallow any URLs.

    Thanks for the feedback.

    Can you click Live test in the URL Inspection tool? This should give you information about whether the sitemap exists/can be fetched by Google.

    You can also use the sitemap validator to check for any errors – https://www.xml-sitemaps.com/validate-xml-sitemap.html

    Hi,

    URL Inspection shows the ‘noindex’ tag, but is that not expected for sitemaps?

    The sitemap validator shows no errors.

    Yes! The noidndex tag is expected. Using the URL Inspection Tool is to see if Google is able to fetch the sitemap in the first place.

    It’s also good to learn that the sitemap validator shows no errors. Since the sitemap loads properly and is reachable by Googlebot, I suspect it could be an issue with the Google Search Console.
