    Hey,

All of the sudden, the post-sitemap is not working and showing this error:
There has been a critical error on your website.

However, the page sitemap and the sitemap index are working.

Also, when I check the error log nothing pops up. already talked to my hosting and they couldn’t figure it out and said its very odd indeed that nothing shows up on the log.

    Hi,

Can you confirm you are on the latest version of WordPress 5.6 and using the latest version of Yoast SEO for WordPress 15.6.2?

Would it be possible for you to share a URL of your sitemap?

We’re sorry that you are experiencing problems that might be caused by our plugin!

Just to be sure, we would like to rule out any plugin or theme conflicts that may occur. The fastest way to do this is to?deactivate all non-Yoast plugins and switch to a standard theme?like?Twenty Nineteen.?

Test this on your development or staging site, if you have one. If not, we recommend using the?Health Check & Troubleshooting?plugin. This plugin allows you to run a conflict check?without affecting normal visitors to your site.

As we can imagine that you’re unfamiliar with checking for conflicts, we’d like to point you to a step-by-step guide that will walk you through the process:?How to check for plugin conflicts.

Ya using the latest versions on both. Disabled all the plugins and used a standard theme like u mentioned, still same error.

can I share the URL privately?

Could you please provide a post sitemap URL where the issue occurs so that we can take a look at them?

    Can I send it privately?

Unfortunately, as per forums rule, I/we cannot ask you to share your private data on a public forum. Another way could be relevant screenshots highlighting the issue. OR, would it be possible for you to create a staging environment activating only the required plugins and share the link?

If all the above options are not immediately possible, please check the following possible fixes:

    1. Check whether the source of the sitemap shows you the data you would expect in an XML sitemap. Not sure how to see the source code, follow the steps in this article.

    2. If you have a cache plugin or server side cache, please flush the cache. If the issue remains, please disable and re-enable the sitemap feature (steps here) to force a cache reset. If you are not sure how to clear caching from theme/plugin please speak to those authors. If you want to clear cache from the server, please speak to your host provider. To clear the cache from a browser use this guide: https://kb.yoast.com/kb/how-to-clear-my-browsers-cache/

    3. Open the sitemap and the sitemap stylesheet in Firefox to see if any errors display. If an error displays, please read this article about common sitemap errors.

    4. Yoast SEO uses the WordPress site URLs to generate the sitemap. In rare cases, these URLs may not match the preferred URL format of your site. Go to Admin > Settings > General and make sure the correct Site Address and WordPress address match the sitemap URL you are trying to view.

Can you inform us of the results?

We checked the given URL and noticed that you’re using the older version Yoast SEO plugin v11.8. The latest stable version is v15.7.

If you do update the plugin, does the issue resolve?

If still the issue persists, while we are in attempt to gather some more information about the cause of this error, would you be able to provide the error log information from your server? We want to see if there are any PHP errors recorded in the error log which might help us narrow down the cause. You may need to contact your hosting provider for this information.

We are looking forward to your reply.

We are sorry to hear that you’re still experiencing the issue. We can imagine how that could be frustrating for you when seeing no errors in the server error log specific to the Yoast SEO generated post sitemap.

Due to the nature of the issue, we’ll need to take a look at your setup. However, we are unable to do it here as this is a public forum. So, if you have a Yoast SEO Premium subscription or if you’re willing to buy one, you’ll have access to our premium support where we can investigate the issue directly on your website privately.

If you don’t wish to have the Yoast SEO Premium, that’s completely fine. In this case, other community members might be able to help you with this as we are now out of clue without taking a look at your setup.

    Thanks for your understanding!

So I need to pay in order to get support? I’ll just use another free plugin instead of Yoast.

    Hi,

For /post-sitemap.xml, it is indeed showing as having a ‘critical error’ and a 500 server error, but the main sitemap, as well as the page sitemap, are working as expected.

Since you mentioned that you’ve already tried a conflict check by disabling all plugins except for Yoast SEO and using a default WordPress theme, and that the issue still occurred, and that your hosting mentioned that there are no error logs, we definitely would have to check on your specific set-up further in order to truly determine what is causing the issue.

Perhaps you may consider upgrading to Yoast SEO Premium and we’ll be able to provide further support there. We also have a lenient 30-day refund policy should you not be satisfied with the support or features of the plugin itself. We apologize for not being able to provide a better solution for you and we understand if you decide to go with another plugin.
