  • Hello!

Sometimes it works if you just disable the sitemap, save changes, enable it, save changes. Or deactivate and reactivate the plugin.

Also, do you happen to use W3 Total Cache?

    Hi Blade,

    Thanks for your reply…

I have tried all the options mentioned by you (just disable the sitemap, save changes, enable it, save changes. Or deactivate and reactivate the plugin.)

BUT STILL FACING THE SAME PROBLEM….

That is strange indeed. Sometimes strange behavior may be caused by a plugin or theme conflict. The fastest way to rule out conflicts is to deactivate all non-Yoast plugins and switch to a standard theme like Twenty Seventeen. If this resolves the issue, you have a conflict and should activate one plugin at a time until you locate the conflict. Finally, after all plugins are active, switch to your theme. This will narrow down the conflict to a specific plugin or theme.

If you are unfamiliar with checking for conflicts, we wrote a small guide that will walk you through the steps. You can find it here: How To Check For Plugin Conflicts

    Thanks @amboutwe,

    I have tried following:

    Deactivate all the plugins
    Switch to StandardTheme “Twenty Seventeen”
But still not able to generate sitemap_index.xml

Than I have generated my sitemap using XML Sitemap Generator and than load it to my root folder (sitemap.xml). When I type https://www.example.com/sitemap.xml on my browser than it is showing my sitemap but when I type https://www.example.com/sitemap_index.xml than it is not working.

Now I am very much confused for :

    1. why I am not able to generate my sitemap using Yoast plugin???
    2. Why https://www.example.com/sitemap_index.xml is not working…
    3. Is direct uploading of sitemap in my root folder will give proper SEO results?
    4. Is Google Webmaster will accept it??

    Please help me…

Yoast SEO generates sitemaps on the fly which means you will not see a physical file on your server. Please remove any physical sitemap files on your server as these may interfere with Yoast sitemaps.

    @amboutwe,

As advice by you, I have removed physical sitemap files on my server than after also i am not able to generate sitemap.xml.

I have to submit sitemap at Google Webmaster and Bing webmaster tool. So what to do now??????????

    Hi,

We’re working on cleaning up these Yoast SEO support forums. Since your thread hasn’t had any activity in the last two weeks, we’ve marked it as resolved.

Of course, you’re always welcome to open a new topic. We kindly ask you to read this post before doing so.

    Thanks for understanding!
