• Hi, yesterday i’ve installed WordPress 4.0 on my blog.
I use Yoast and Google Xml Sitemap Generator but i’ve the same problem:

“This page contains the following errors:

error on line 1 at column 60: Space required after the Public Identifier
Below is a rendering of the page up to the first error. “

I’ve only 5-6 pages on my blog.

    The sitemap is here

    Thanks

Well, first of all, don’t use the sitemap function of both plugins simultaneously.

Now, which plugin are you using for the sitemap right now?

The error occurs because you’ve got HTML code which shouldn’t be there at the beginning of the sitemap.xml, and this makes the XML invalid.

The HTML code is this part:

    <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN">
    <html><head>
    </head><body>
    <br>

    <br>

    </body></html>

However, I’m not sure why the HTML code is there.

Do you have a cache plugin activated in your WordPress instance?

    Thanks for your answers.
I have only the plugins: CONTACT FORM – YOAST SEO – SOCIAL MEDIA WIDGET – GOOGLE XML SITEMAPS.

    This is Yoast Sitemap: https://www.soziocombustibili.it/sitemap_index.xml
    This is Google Sitemap: https://www.soziocombustibili.it/sitemap.xml

I tried to stop one sitemap’s plugin but the error is the same.

Ok, which one are you using now? Please only use one for your sitemap. Either deactivate and delete Google XML Sitemaps or switch off Yoast SEO’s sitemap feature.

Ok, i’m using only Google Xml Sitemaps and i switched off Yoast.
This is the URL of google’s sitemap: https://www.soziocombustibili.it/sitemap.xml

Hm, yeah it’s still getting HTML injected from somewhere. Let’s stick with this one plugin for now, doubling up on sitemaps is bad for Google anyway.

Are you using any sort of caching plugin, or do you see a “Clear/Purge Cache” button in your Dashboard or admin bar? If so, would you please try clearing the cache?

I’ve tried with only the Google’s Sitemap plugin active but the problem is the same.
I don’t have any clear cache button.

I have another problem (perhaps connected) : i can’t add any media on pages with the upload button and i can’t display the media library. if i want to add a photo, i must click on ADD MEDIA and INSERT URL, because if i try to upload i’ve an error.

Yeah, that certainly sounds like you have a lot of problems there. Hm, let’s start by ruling out the usual suspects.

Try deactivating all plugins except the one sitemap plugin you are using. If that resolves the issue (you may need to clear your browser’s cache too), reactivate each one individually until you find the cause.

If that does not resolve the issue, try switching to the Twenty Fourteen theme to rule-out a theme-specific issue (theme functions can interfere like plugins).

I suspect it might be the theme, but good to start with plugins just in case.

I will try with change the theme because switching off all the plugins is the same problem.
    Thanks

You’re welcome, please let us know how that goes!

Hi, i’ve the same problem with the standard wordpress theme.
I’ve done the same site on altervista and i don’t have any problem. i use wordpress 4.0 ita on my domain and on altervista with the same theme and same plugins.

    (@macmanx)

What do you mean by “the same site on altervista”?

Also, by “the standard WordPress theme” do you mean the theme titled Twenty Fourteen?

    Thread Starter domenicomas

    (@domenicomas)

https://domemassi.altervista.org this is the same website with the same wordpress 4.0 ita, the same plugins and works well.

    Yes the theme Twenty fourteen

I’m seeing the same malformed HTMl at the top of your source at https://www.soziocombustibili.it too, but not at https://domemassi.altervista.org/

Can you once more deactivate all plugins except the sitemap plugin at https://www.soziocombustibili.it switch to Twenty Fourteen, and leave it at Twenty Fourteen this time so we can take a look? Usually things like this are almost always caused by the theme.
