    Hi,

We are facing an issue like resubmitting the sitemap again. We already submitted the sitemap of this website last month and it is resubmitted again yesterday and showing discovered URLs as zero “0”. No one from our team resubmitted the sitemap, but it automatically submitting. Is that a feature of google? or Is that an issue? will it affect our ranking, keywords, or SEO performance?

We discovered a similar situation being posed in the Google community here when doing our study on this matter.

    https://support.google.com/webmasters/thread/28610146/sitemaps-are-being-submitted-to-search-console-automatically-by-themselves?hl=en

So we have searched our files using the snippet of Google Submit API. We found that the plugin called site kit by Google has the code to submit the sitemap in the plugin code.

Will resubmitting the sitemap make any issues? like will it affect our keyword, ranking, and SEO performance? We are asking this because resubmitting the sitemap will make the discovered URLs count to zero and whenever we get the discovered URLs count as 0 it is affecting the Google listing of our pages and we lost some of our keywords.

Please let us know your feedback.

    Thank you

Thanks for getting in touch @vimalroy08. Unfortunately we’re limited to Site Kit support queries here in the plugin forums. With regards sitemaps the product experts at the Search Console Help Center would be able to assist more than we can here in Site Kit plugin support.

Note also that while Site Kit doesn’t have any sitemap functionality, there is a WordPress site map functionality built into WordPress by default. You can add a wp-sitemap.xml path to the end of your site URL to access this. More information on this below:
    https://make.www.ads-software.com/core/2020/07/22/new-xml-sitemaps-functionality-in-wordpress-5-5/

Note also that while we can only assist with Site Kit specific queries here in the plugin support forums, you can resubmit your sitemap at any time. See below:

Hopefully the above is of use. Best of luck!

    Hello @jamesosborne ,

    Thank you for your reply!

I understand that this plugin doesn’t have any sitemap functionality. I am not talking about the sitemap generate(we are using Yoast SEO plugin for the sitemap generation) functionality, I am talking about the ability of the plugin to submit the already generated sitemap using the Google Submit API (Google search console API).

Also, we have some doubts regarding the sitemap submission, ranking, SEO, performance, and keywords as I mentioned in the initial question.

    Thank you!

Thanks for the update @vimalroy08. As far as I know the plugin doesn’t submit any sitemap, including the default WordPress sitemap, however, I will check this with the team and report back to you here, in particular with the very useful screenshot you provided. It may take a couple of days before I have an update on this.

I am talking about the ability of the plugin to submit the already generated sitemap using the Google submit API.

While I’m checking your query with the team, you may wish to subscribe or chime in on the below, which would allow for the plugin to submit users own sitemaps:
    https://github.com/google/site-kit-wp/issues/7048

I’ll get back to you here as soon as I have an update on this. Thank you.

    Hi @vimalroy08,

I discussed your query with the team today and I can confirm that Site Kit does not utilize the sitemap feature from the Search Console API used within the plugin. The sitemap section which you highlighted is only part of the library use, although it’s not used.

Let me know if you have any further questions on this.
