• I installed the Google XML Sitemaps plugin and created my sitemap. When I viewed the sitemap, all the links referenced the IP address of my site not the hostname. Is that the way it’s supposed to be?

Some additional info … I just migrated to WordPress from a Blogger custom domain (ugh). Last night I updated my domain servers to point to the new WordPress installation. Maybe the change just hasn’t propagated fully?

Any thoughts? Will having the IP address instead of the hostname in the sitemap make Google (and other) search results display with the IP address?

    Thanks,

    Correct.

Of course, googlebot doesnt interpret stuff, it reports. If it’s sent to an IP, and a page comes up at that IP, its going to report back what it sees.

Okay, sounds like I just need to be a bit more patient. ??

    Thanks for the info.

I did some more poking around, and turns out the problem was I had not updated the WordPress Address and Blog Address fields in Settings > General. Both fields listed my IP address. When I updated them to my hostname and regenerated the sitemap, all was good.
