wp-sitemap.xml still doesn’t show properly in browsers with Jetpack Boost version 1.0.6.

It has the error “XML Parsing Error: no root element found” on “/wp-sitemap-index.xsl”.

If I disable Jetpack Boost the sitemap works properly.

According to the changelog, this looks like it should have been fixed in 1.0.5 or maybe even in 1.0.3, but it’s still not working for me.

    Hey @et7ioqir42!
Can you share the URL of your sitemap so that we can take a closer look?

Looks like Cloudflare has cached that URL – try clearing clear your cloudflare cache.

Also, it looks like some sort of minification might be turned on.

Can you turn on/off the Jetpack Boost “Defer Non-Essential Javascript” module and test if that fixes the issue? If it doesn’t – that means that something else on your site is interfering with the sitemaps – either a plugin or Cloudflare.

Clearing Cloudflare cache doesn’t fix it.

I can’t turn off “Defer Non-Essential Javascript”, since for some reason Jetpack stuff only works for a single user, the person who linked their account, rather than all admins on a site.

@et7ioqir42 Module setting adjustments shouldn’t be linked to the Jetpack account. If it is – that’s a bug we should fix ??

My user is an Administrator on the site.

I see the Get Started page when I click the Jetpack Boost menu.

My boss, who linked his WordPress.com account to Jetpack Boost, sees the toggles for “Optimize CSS Loading”, “Defer Non-Essential Javascript”, and “Lazy Image Loading”.

A-ha. Thanks for letting us know – this is something we’ll iterate on and improve. A single connected-user should be enough.

In the meantime, does connecting your WordPress.com account work for you there? After connecting, you should be able to see all the settings as well.

Yes, if I sign in with my account, I can see and change the Jetpack Boost settings.

When I turn off Defer Non-Essential Javascript, the sitemap works properly.

When I turn it on again, the sitemap xsl file is broken.

    Hi @et7ioqir42,

Thanks for the follow-up, this is interesting:

When I turn off Defer Non-Essential Javascript, the sitemap works properly.

When I turn it on again, the sitemap xsl file is broken.

@pyronaur has mentioned earlier a possible plugin conflict: provided Cloudflare doesn’t seem to be the issue here, can you please try to temporarily deactivate all your plugins and check if the problem gets fixes that way? If it works, then reactivate each plugin one-by-one to find out which one is causing problems.

I understand it might sound like a long shot, though at least we can rule that out completely.

Let me know what you find out and thanks for sorting this out with us!

There are two things that cause the sitemap to not work, Gravity Forms and Defer Non-Essential Javascript in Jetpack Boost.

Even with Gravity Forms disabled, if Defer Non-Essential Javascript is enabled, the sitemap doesn’t work.

With Gravity Forms enabled and Defer Non-Essential Javascript disabled, it doesn’t work either.

So the only way it works is if both of them are disabled.

Thanks – I’ve managed to reproduce the issue on my test site – we’re going to fix this in the next release ??
