    Hi guys,

According to my sitemap index inside Google Search Console, there are 529 terms indexed.

    1) What is the ideal limit for posts, pages and CPT’s?

    2) If say, the ideal limit is 300, then how would I go about launching a second, and a third sitemap to submit to Google Search Console?

  • Hey @deeveearr,

    Thank you for reaching out.

    1. By default, we limit entries in one sitemap to 1000 items. When you reach this limit, another sitemap will be created. Like if you would have published 2500 posts, you would have post-sitemap.xml, post-sitemap1.xml, and so on.

    2. You don’t need to submit sub-sitemaps yourself. In Google Search Console – you should only add sitemap_index.xml. The index file will always be up to date and include new sub-sitemaps. You can find more information here: https://yoast.com/help/submit-sitemap-search-engines/

So therefore if I get to post/page/CPT number 1001, that one extra piece of content would be automatically added to a second sitemap, which would then be added to Google Search Console, without me having to do anything.

    I can go with that!

Correct, another sub-sitemap would be created and included in sitemap_index.xml. Next time Google checks your sitemap, they will see it being included in your sitemap :-).
