Hello, I apologize in advance because I don’t speak English very well and I am a beginner in worpress. My search console, in the coverage section, tells me that my pages are indexed but not sent via a sitemap.
When I go in the sitemaps section /sitemap_index.xml, I have an error in /page-sitemap.xml. When I click to see the detail it is indicated: The sitemap can be read, but contains errors
The sitemap is an HTML file.

Your sitemap seems to correspond to an HTML page. Please use a supported sitemap format.
    Examples
    Line 2
    Tag :
    html
I already tried to find answers in other topics so I can already tell you that the settings: In WordPress go to SEO>General>Features
Toggle the ‘XML Sitemaps’ option to ‘On’ – it’s already done

When I go to the url https://www.frenchnft.fr/page-sitemap.xml, I can see all the pages of my site.

So I don’t understand where the problem comes from and what I have to do to fix it, because this is obviously a big SEO problem.

    Thanks for your help

    Hello @gresar,

Thanks for reaching out regarding your sitemap. We identified two issues and they are addressed below:

Pages are indexed but not sent via a sitemap
The indexed but not submitted in the sitemap message is not an error or a warning. This is just a comment on their end, letting you know they found the URL through other means. These are URLs that were found by Google through their crawling of the web, without having to find them in the sitemap. It’s possible that Google either indexed the URLs before they were added to the sitemap or that they found the URLs from third-party links, etc.

The sitemap is an HTML file
We understand that the Google Search Console is reporting your sitemap as an HTML page. We find that strange as the correct XML sitemaps are being generated by our Yoast plugin under the URL, https://www.frenchnft.fr/page-sitemap.xml. Therefore, there is no problem with our plugin. We are not sure why Google is reporting sitemap is in HTML format.

However, we suspect sometimes this could be due to cache. Try clearing your cache from your plugin, theme, server, browser, or CDN such as Cloudflare and resubmit the sitemap. If you are not sure how to clear your server caching, please speak with your host provider. If you need to clear your browser caching this guide may help: How to clear my browser’s cache?

Hello, thank you for your quick answer. I emptied the cache and sent my sitemap to Google search console again.
Unfortunately, it did not change anything. The error is still there.
I use WP Super Cache and I saw your article here: https://yoast.com/help/exclude-sitemaps-from-cache/
I’m still very afraid to add codes as shown. Do you think this could solve the problem or is it irrelevant?
    Kind regards,
    Gregory
