  • So the .htaccess rule is completely ignored. Do you know if mod_headers is enabled on your server?

PHP 7 should not be a problem. The plugin has been tested on PHP 7.0 and 7.1

    couldn’t check on bluehost.

It’s probably no problem or what do you think, atleast no error on news sitemap.

As long as GWT (Search Console) doesn’t report any errors, there is no real need to fix this issue. It’s only the browser that apparently refuses to see the sitemaps as xml but only trust the content-type header that says rrs…

Still, it’s strange. I’ve not had reports before that Bluehost was a problem for this sitemap plugin. So you might want to keep an eye out for weird response headers if you run into other issues, even if they seem completely unrelated.

And IF you ever find out why the response headers are off, please let me know! ??

    @ravanh

Hi, both sitemap and sitemap-news has the following warnings “Sitemap contains urls which are blocked by robots.txt.”

Very strange. Your robots.txt only blocks access to /wp-admin/ see https://newstage.com.ng/robots.txt … or are we talking about a different site?

You may want to use the robots.txt tester in Google Search Console to see if Google sees the same as we do. Also check different urls (like sitemaps and posts) in the “Fetch as Google” tool.

    Thread Starter edwards1

    (@edwards1)

nope, it’s the same site and i presume you meant the robot.txt file is fine and i shouldn’t be seeing such an error, right?

I did use the google robots tester and everything was fine and the “Fetch as Google” indexed ok.

Then I cannot explain why you see the warning “Sitemap contains urls which are blocked by robots.txt.” as nothing is blocked by your robots.txt except /wp-admin/ (this is the default WordPress robots.txt response)

Did you have the option “Ask search engines not to index this site” on Settgins > Reading enabled recently? Or a plugin like Maintenance Mode?

    Thread Starter edwards1

    (@edwards1)

nothing of such, and “Discourage search engines from indexing this site” option is not active.

i will keep checking, although that error number keeps growing

The error number is growing? Are there any specific posts or URLs mentioned? Can you send me one as example?

    Thread Starter edwards1

    (@edwards1)

yes, growing immensely high and example is sitemap: https://goo.gl/danRJ7, value: https://goo.gl/fmS2Jj

    Thread Starter edwards1

    (@edwards1)

basically all three examples are sitemap: https://goo.gl/danRJ7 with diff tag value, another value is https://goo.gl/LnHUYF

under the news sitemap, i saw a three url example, but the error with the url occured when we installed ssl and all link were not working because our permalink had changed to example.com/’/date/title which was supposed to be example.com/date/title and immediately we changed it back to normal.

Note: no new post was published in that time but we soon found out that the post with /’/ are pilled up in crawl error

    ex. https://newstage.com.ng/’/2017/10/17/south-africas-cabinet-changes/’

How do we probably let google realise its not working, or remove them permanently
