SKU update once variation is selected?

Hi guys.
I have a very simple question, that might question a lot of people.
When I assign for each variation of the product its SKU and image,
I expect on product page when I choose any variation to see updated SKU and its images, but it does not happen…May you be so kind and let me know how can I make that work?
or it is must be done only trough plugin? this is not general settings?
I can pay for this part of code, but please let me know if this all is possible?
