    Hello!

I’ve noticed that with the recent updates (not sure which), slashes started to appear in the comments when someone uses an apostrophe or a quotation mark. For example: It\’s instead of It’s.

When we reply, it works fine, at least when we reply from inside the Comments area in WordPress.

We deactivated the Spam Destroyer plugin, added a comment on a post, and it appeared properly, without any slashes. We reactivated it, added another comment, and the slashes started to appear again. Now the plugin is deactivated.

The bad news is that disabling it won’t make the slashed go away, so I guess we’ll have to edit the comments.

Any help/guidance in solving this issue will be much appreciated.

Here’s a link to a comment, if you’d like to see an example: https://themeskills.com/top-10-must-have-wordpress-plugins/#comment-1136

    Thank you!

Thanks for the excellent bug report! I’ll try to work out what is causing this and fix it ASAP.

Thanks for your fast reply! Looking forward for the fix.

I’m also letting you know that we reactivated the plugin. We already got 3 spam comments in 12 hours, and with your plugin we haven’t received any spam since we started the website, over a year ago. Same goes for our other websites. That’s brilliant for a spam plugin, which also has no settings.

Hope you never give up on it!

    Thanks!

I’m having trouble replicating this. When I test single or double quotes on my test site, they appear to work as expected.

Question marks are working fine too.

I’ve tried testing this on my own live websites too, but they’re not exhibiting this behaviour either.

Is it possible that you have some other plugin which is interacting with the comments section? Perhaps it is behaving in a way which is incompatible with the Spam Destroyer plugin. If so, then I’d need to see the plugin to work out how to get around that problem.

Hmmmm, maybe with the iThemes Security plugin, since that’s the other plugin that handles spam. Can’t think of any other plugin that can create a conflict.

I’ll dig into it and let you know.

Thanks for checking out the issue! I appreciate it!
