Slashes! How to properly use stripslashes here?

I have a plugin that displays a popup box (yeah, I hate them to) to alert my visitors to something that I feel they need to know about. I haven’t used it in a while and just had to re-enable it to get a message out.

Well, the text in the popup has slashes in front of the apostrophes (I/’ll) as well as inserting them into HTML links, therefore breaking them.

How can I fix this? I’ve reached out to the developer, but he is not the quickest to answer. Any ideas out there?
