Thanks

i will come back tomorrow and delete and reload the photo (and other photos) and crop, add to slider etc, to make sure / double check. thanks nikeo. j
hi nikeo, i am not using a child theme.
yesterday, I had gone into ‘Editor’ and copied your first code into the
‘Customizr: Stylesheet (style.css)’ and clicked ‘update file’.then i went into ‘customiz’it! and copied your 2nd code into Custom CSS and clicked save.
i have now (today) gone to relook at ‘Customizr: Stylesheet (style.css)’ in ‘Editor’ and it (as it said it would) has not saved the code.
the 2nd code is stilled saved in ‘custom Css’ in ‘customiz it!’.
my question : the first code…where exactly am i to copy it into?, cos obviously i didnt put it in the right place.
please advise and thanks. joan

Hi,
The first part has to be copied in functions.php file (at the bottom).
You will find this file in the list on the right. Just click on it and it will open itin the editor. Then copy the code.Don’t forget to remove the wrong code in style.css…
@joanwalsh You must use a child theme for Nikeo’s instructions to work. You can create one easily. See here for how.
thanks. here is the updated version after following your steps nikeo now, still abit cropped at the bottom. https://joanwalsh.ie/ but its showing more, and the sky is the way it should be.
(its ok nikeo the code didnt stay in the style box )
i will check out the child theme now electric foot. thanks.
oh that is weird, i click on link and it doesnt show changes..for a few seconds. ?? and then it changes.
Yes, I get that too (I’ve now deleted the code). The new image comes in and then it suddenly jumps to the old image. I think (looking at Nikeo’s transition CSS) that it’s supposed to be a beautiful slow scroll through the whole photo (promising!), but it doesn’t quite work yet.
thanks. i will do the same, delete the 2 codes.
deleted the 1st code. no 2nd code.
ok, i started again. i uploaded 3 photos all exactly 1200 x 500. made a new slider.
– at full width, the slider crops the bottom of all the photos.
(see each image, by ‘view image’. they are all 1200 x 500, but it does not note this in the url for each image. ? )– same with the non-full width slider, not cropped as much, but still cropped at the bottom.
(see each image, by ‘view image’, each shows them made a different size ?? 1170×500.jpg ? for this. i guess cos its not the full width slider..still and all, i hope there is a solution to this problem.
as i am making the photos the right size 1200 x 500 and would like them to show at that size in slider.
thanks, joan
Joan, I see from what you write on your site that you don’t understand the why there is cropping. Take a look here for an explanation of what’s going on. In order to resize reasonably, cropping will always take place, by design.
That said, once a decision to crop is made, it would be nice to have the choice whether to crop equally from top and bottom, or from the top, or from the bottom (as it is now). That would be an extra feature I would pay for, for example.
[p.s. Note also that Nikeo has indicated that the exact size for the slider images should be 1170×500, not 1200×500, though in practice 30px doesn’t make any difference.
p.p.s. Nice photos ?? ]i do not understand why the photos would want to be cropped by the slider feature – i use https://pixlr.com/ edit my photos. set my output size to 1200 x 500 and away i go. i expect the slider to reflect exactly what i am asked to provide in dimensions.
right so 1170 x 500 it is. i will redo later.
thanks.
I suggest that if this bothers you so much that you simply install another slider. (Unless Nikeo comes up with a really neat custom solution for you, that is.)
So…
I haven’t tried adding the code to my functions.php file yet (nor the add’l custom CSS,) and I’m wondering if I should bother. I have images which I’d want to specify what portions of it actually show. Did this patch make a lot of difference?
