    Hi,

I’ve been bashing my head against this for a few hours now and can’t make sense of it, so I’m hoping someone can help ??

I have a slider on the homepage with three images, but they are displaying zoomed in (the first and third image more so). I have tried just one image, reloading copies all the images to the exact same size, reloading copies at 500 pixel height, and randomly clicking on/off the different slider options. No joy.

Any ideas would be gratefully received,
    Thanks in advance,
    Roger

  • Hi Wollyroger,

I can’t reproduce the problem on my end or on your page. I would recommend trying the following troubleshooting steps.

    1. Use the latest software versions : make sure WordPress, your theme and plugins are all up to date.
    2. Cache plugin : if you use a server cache or cache plugin, please clear it’s cache content and disable caching via it’s settings.
    3. Browser :
    • Check for plugin conflict : deactivate all of your plugins. If it fixes the issue, re-activate your plugins one by one, until you identify the plugin in conflict.
    • User of a child theme : activate the parent theme if you use a child theme
    • Javascript : make sure you did not insert custom javascript code ( like analytics, subscription popup… ), for example in a widget, that could break your site.

    HI emranemranx

Thanks for your replay and your suggestions,

I have gone through each suggestion here and the problem still persists unfortunately (both on Microsoft edge and chrome). Here are some screen shots which should exemplify the issue hopefully…

    How image appears on site:

    How it should appear:

I understand there may be some cropping of the height to fit it into the 500 pixel height viewport, but I would expect to see the full width…?

    Kind regards,
    Roger

It seems to serve up the correct image initially before changing (after half a second) to the zoomed-in version.

I just tried removing all HTML content on the homepage and the problem still persists also…

    Hi @wollyroger

Have you looked at your site on various platforms, monitors, devices? I believe what you’re experiencing is dynamic resizing to fit the width of the particular window being viewed.

It appears that in the Customize area you’ve shortened the height. If you crop the image to the recommended size of 1170px in width and crop it to your desired height, this may stop.

On 2 of my sites, I have a shorter slider on my site. I’ve set the Customize setting to that height for all pages to match my image height and I don’t believe they crop at all. Here’s one of my sites in case it helps you to see. I do sometimes notice the top of my hair cut off in the 2nd image of both slide images though.

I hope I’m right and that this can help.

    Hi Deb,

    Thank you for the reply,

Unfortunately the images appear as ‘zoomed’ on my phone and iPad too. They do not show as full width on any device.

I have tried different image sizes and ratios (including 1170), but with no joy also

    Hi Wollyroger,

Background images are automatically responsive. The display though can be different depending on the device, this is just how CSS works. Please refer to the following knowledge base articles to know how background images react on responsive devices:

    https://docs.presscustomizr.com/article/47-what-images-dimensions-for-my-slides
    https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/slider-and-big-resolutions/?
    https://themify.me/blog/background-image-varies-difference-devices

A little bit cropping can happen, otherwise, your slides are appearing fine.

    HI all,

I went through all your suggestions again this morning and I seem to have got it to display correctly by using the 1170 width as @debshadovitz suggested. I hadn’t purged the site cache the first time I did this, which is why I didn’t see any difference in appearance lat time.

Thanks you all for your help ??

@wollyroger Fantastic! I’m happy to have helped.
(Don’t crop close to the tops of heads as I did. ?? )

By the way, here’s a good page for all of us:

Will open in a new tab.

Remember to mark this as solved.
