For some wierd reason the default MH slider widget for home has stopped working. It worked for me earlier but after I moved the site to production from localhost and came back to localhost, returned all database settings to the default localhost values (eg. From https://mydomain.com to https://localhost/mydomain). The MH Slider widget stopped working. Tried everything to get it to work on my testing server(xampp) and it just completely refused. I even deleted and redownloaded the theme still no success.

And for general advise. I love this theme so much, simple, fast and easy to use. But I have a question, when using MH Custom post widget, is there any way I can make the first post (from my prefered category) be bigger in size than the following older posts under?. I’ll try any method available even coding it in. Will appreciate your response.

  • Hello emeka_toby,

    thanks for downloading the theme.

About the slider, as you said, it was working before. I’m pretty sure this isn’t a theme issue. The theme is used on thousands of websites and no other client has this issue and I can’t reproduce it either.

You should check if your database structure is still ok. Maybe it can’t query the posts properly. If the slider has no posts available, it won’t show up.

About your second question, the lite version has only a limited version of the MH Custom Posts widget included. If you want more features, including the ability to show the first post with a big image and an excerpt, you can upgrade to the premium version which you can find on our website: https://www.mhthemes.com/

So I started all over again. Downloaded a fresh copy of the theme, created a new database. And configured everthing to specification. And then it happened again. The slider just stopped working. After importing an xml file into it. I used the theme for awhile and after a refresh, it disappeared from my homepage. The first time it happen there were little or no plugins installed. The second time there were just a few (meta slider, jetpack etc). So I want to learn how to fix it if it’s a database thing like you said. Find the fault and fix it. I love this theme a lot and I want to be able to complete use and understand it.

Note: when the slider widget is put in a tiny space kinda is there but the slider doesn’t come up. Like a small space (3px) as if to say something might be there.

Thank you for the fast support you provided eariler

And some more info I left out. I’m test on a xampp (localhost). And two, when this issue happens “meta slider” plugin stops functioning too. Basically any slider plugin stops working. It does the whole 3px gap thing as if to something is suppose to be there.

    Hello emeka_toby,

as you said, it was working before and after you installed some plugins, the issue was there. So looks like this is definately a plugin conflict.

You should deactivate your plugins one by one and check again, then you will see which plugin is causing the error.

I suppose the 3px space means that the markup of the slider is loading but it can’t execute the JavaScript, seems something is blocking or breaking it.

You also said that you are using Jetpack. In Jetpack there is now a new feature called Widget Visibility. It seems that this is still a little buggy because several clients with several different themes are facing issues with that. I suggest you disable that feature, maybe it’s because of that.

    Regards
    Michael
