slider not showing after 2.6.3 -> 2.6.4 upgrade
-
Hi,
After upgrading “Smooth Slider” from version 2.6.3 to version 2.6.4, the slider does not appear on the front-end.
If I go to Plugins -> Settings -> “Smooth Slider Settings”, I can still see the preview working normally, but it just doesn’t appear on the front-end.
I tried just clicking “save” on settings pages, and also de-activating and re-activating the plugin, but it didn’t make it re-appear.
Would you have further suggestions to try possibly?
Thanks so much!,
Alan

Hi there,
Thanks for your patience.
Can you please send us the url where the smooth slider is embedded, so that we can also take a look of the scenario and try to solve it.
Waiting for your response.

SliderVilla Support.Hi, thanks so much for your time –
It’s the “Featured News” box with the blue header at the top right of this page (and many inside pages):
https://sandbox.cwstemp.com/meetings-and-events/all-meetings-and-events/
(this installation has the upgraded version 2.6.4 of the plugin)I originally believed that I had it still working on a separate copy of the same site, that was still running Smooth Slider plugin v2.6.3 (since I didn’t update the plugin after it broke sandbox), but now it’s in fact showing up blank there too, in chrome/ffox/IE (win7pro) –
https://gracepre.cwstemp.com/meetings-and-events/all-meetings-and-events/Obviously maybe something else is causing a conflict then, but I don’t know what it would be … ? Maybe you can see something and give me an idea of what to check?
Also, I’m seeing 2.6.5 is available now – Let me know if you think I should update the 2.6.3 one (sandbox) to that?
Thanks again!!
Hi there,
Thanks for writing.
We tried to recreate the issue, but here on our development server it works fine after the update.
Smooth slider loads the script file in footer and there is an error in another script which is loading from some other plugin.
So can you kindly send the temporary access details of your site to support[at]slidervilla[dot]com
We will try to look into the issue and fix it ASAP.Thanks for your patience and waiting for your response.
Best regards,
Sukhada
SliderVilla Support Team.I am having a very similar issue, except I can’t see the slides in the preview. The URL: https://www.newnorthchurch-hingham.org.
I upgraded to both WordPress 4.0 and Smooth Slider v2.6.5 last night at once. The slider has stopped. All fields are selected appropriately. At least as far as I can see.
Another problem that happened with the upgrade is the banner size was completely lost.
Because we upgraded to WordPress 4.0 we were told we can’t restore pre WordPress 4.0 . So we are stuck with this conflict.
Please help?
Respectfully submitted,
I don’t know what you mean a “rough design of Smooth Slider” If I had screen shots of the original prior to the upgrade, I could send them. Unfortunately, I do not. I can say that each page has different sliders, I see those are all set up.
I can tell you that we want the slider in the HEADER, replacing the template banners. Also, the banners should be full width of the template and 1/3 more height than the template.
I tried entering the javacript with the index.php (main), the page.php, the single.php and the header php. nothing was working, just before “get sidebar” and “get footer” codes.
However, my desire is to place rotating banners in the HEADER. At one point, in the header.php (before the </head> tag, I managed to get the preview to show, which was odd (I assume it was based on the javascript from the preview page). However, it did not replace the banner.
I don’t know if this will help with timing, but I am on EDT New England, USA. If you give me a time work back and forth on this, I’ll be happy to accommodate your time zone.
I am so grateful for your help. I really need to get this fixed.
Respectfully submitted,
I uploaded and sized one header on the Welcome page. That is the size he prefers. width=”940″ height=”267″
I can always work with the width later on. I just need the slider in the headers and pulling from the assigned photos within Smooth Slider.
Thank you again.
Hi Slidervilla,
I am just checking in and still wondering if there has been a solution yet? My last response was 5 days ago, (2 responses), but have not heard back yet. I know you operate on a volunteer basis and out of the goodness of your heart. It is just my client is really concerned, and may move away from the plugin if we don’t find a solution soon.
With best regards, and much appreciation.
Looking into your site right now, thanks for your patience.
Kindly check the page and let me know if it is working as per your expectations.
Hi Slider Villa
Almost, but no cigar yet. The smoothslider is pushed to the right.
The pages with feature graphics have a header and then the smoothslider header.
The pages without a feature graphic also has the slider pushed to the right.
The slider itself is working. We also need it to have more height displaying more of the photographs.
the website is:
https://www.newnorthchurch-hingham.org just so you can see the pages. But here is the attachment
But you are getting there, and I appreciate that. ??
Respectfully submitted,
I took out the feature graphics, wondering if that could be the problem, thinking the wrapper (?) was pushing the slide over to the right.
I looked at CSS hoping maybe header or something, but if I changed position: relative to absolute or absolute !important; in Firebug, I got double the header or header that overwrote the Nav bar. Not any better. ;/ crazy. I must not be seeing something.
Thanks for sticking with me on this.
Here is what is strange. The website is fine in Chrome and Internet Explorer, but still off to the right in FireFox (I can’t view in Safari – I do not have the browser). So now there has to be a browser code entered somewhere to accommodate FireFox.
But you are getting closer and closer!
Once you fix it, would you be so kind to tell me what changes you made so I know for other clients?
It was happening because of the missing CSS “clear:left”. I have already implemented the same on your site and it is working perfect now. Please update the thread and also if you find support helpful, please rate our plugin as 5-star. Thanks for your time.
BTW The implementation is looking really awesome.
WordPress 4.0 and SmoothSlider 2.65. I had a similar issue with smooth slider to the extent I had to deactivate it on the public site and will have to downgrade both the version of Smooth Slider and WordPress.
1. It displays on every page even though I only want it on the homepage.
I might have tried to add the function to only display to index.php but didn’t seem to work. Why do we need to add a function instead of having control over what page it displays?2. Since the short code was on the homepage, there were two instances of it.
3. The upgrade seemed to removed my custom folder OpenSpirit I had manually added to the Smooth Slider plugin folder. The directory ..plugins/smooth-slider/css/skins/ does not display my custom folder.
This is our development site. https://www.openspiritcenter.org/white/ it is deactivated on the live site.
Hi there,
Yes, if you update plugin then your all custom work will get overwrite, always take a backup before updating plugin.
we have checked your url, it seems you inserted smooth slider in theme and in post also, because of that two instances are occuring, if you want smooth slider on only front page then i will suggest you, use following WordPress functions.
<?php is_front_page(); ?> or <?php is_home(); ?>
Let me know if it helps,
Regards,
Sagar.
