Slider of the latest posts

Hey guys!:)

I’d like to add the slider of the latests posts to my rookie theme website. There are plety of plugins that offer this, but they all use the shortcodes. So I’m wondering, where exactly I should put the shortcode to have this slider on the mainpage right above the standart list of the new posts.
