Slider stopped working for Briefed theme

    Our site has had the Briefed theme (from Woo) for many months with the home page configured for a slider based on featured posts. Today, it stopped working with no changes (manually or that we know of) to the site. This morning, the slider was up and running; this evening, there is a placeholder for the slider with no content. Just blank background and non-functional next and previous arrows.

    I tried disabling the slider from the theme settings with the intention of reenabling to possible “reset” the slider. However, disabling did not even remove the placeholder slider. (I did reload the page in case of browser caching.)

    The plug-ins say they are all up to date, and I did not find any issues listed on the Woo site (my search was brief).

    The Jetpack page of the WordPress Dashboard did say “welcome to JP 2.7” or some such (sure wish they’d date those notices and they would not disappear after you viewed the message).

    I’m at a loss as to the cause and would appreciate any suggestions. I’ve read some of the posts about sliders stopping in other themes (but still showing one image), but none exactly the same as this.

    More info: The Briefed slider is imbedded in the static home page with a shortcode: [featuredposts] However, it’s as if the controls for this in the theme options are no longer connected to it. Previously, the setting designated that 8 posts be displayed. So 8 dots show up at the bottom of the slider that link to each post. However, in its broken form, the following things are true:

    • The dots no longer link to the individual posts
    • If I change the settings to display only 4 posts, 8 dots still show
    • Of course, no images are displayed in the slide show any more

    Does the short code no longer work? The theme documentation is very … well … brief. I couldn’t find anything about the shortcode even though it worked this morning.

    I tried simply removing the short code, updating the page, then replacing the shortcode to no avail.

    Again, any clues are welcome.
