slideshow doesnt honor excerpt length

Love the power of this plugin, but like some others, the update seemed to remove the ability to control the excerpt lengths in my slideshow.

the slideshow is ubillboard. we have set some of the slides to pull from a post category. for some reason, they are not following the excerpt length set up in your plugin.

Any help would be appreciated very much.
